| Just got my DC’s. As the parent on the account I received an email. I logged in because I know the password. |
| My kids say the curve on this one was especially tough. |
| real Question: should a 33 be reported at a top competitive school? |
That sucks. My DC got one and done on the April '21 test. We really anticipated DC would have to take it at least one more time. Even the tutor was shocked with the score. |
how competitive? are they in the 75+ percentile for grades/tests with a 33? |
| DC got their back. They are super sad. They weren’t expecting super high scores but they were lower than expected. Have another one scheduled for June. Not sure if it might be better to just skip it and do all TO. |
We are in the same boat. I have twins. One of their scores stayed the same and one went down. I think they will do both June and July to try to maximize their superscore. |
We are west coast but I think it’s June and August. Is there a July? |
| For ACT there is June and July. SAT is August I think. |
Thanks! Not sure how I messed that up. I’m uncertain there will be any July spots left now. DC booked the June one in December and spots were limited. So tempted to tell DC forget it and do TO. |
Remember, the scores are NOT based on a curve of those taking this particular test. How well other students did on this test does NOT affect the scores. (Same thing for the SAT.) |
What if a 33 is around the middle of a school's 25-75 percentile range (so likely near the 50th percentile or so). If the kid doesn't have a hook and is UMC white, and doesn't have an SAT score, better to report the score than risk the school wondering if the kid applied TO because she/he bombed the ACT/SAT? |
My kid is retaking with a 33. She has her sights set high. |
Right, curve was the wrong word since how other students do does not affect the test taker's score. However, the ACT does "equating" to calibrate the score with the difficulty of the test. For example, DC got -5 on April science section for a 29 but -7 on February science section was a 30. |
