Shepherd principal resigning

Why a principal retires or leaves is sometimes hard to find out. When a principal retires or leaves, they recruit their new personnel and existing staff jump ship. Need to watch the exodus.

I'm sorry she's leaving, although we're no longer at Shepherd. The timing is considerate though as it allows time to select from the best applicants. Waiting until later to resign would be the school only gets the left over applicants who other schools didn't select.

It's hard to be a DCPS Principal. It's a 24/7 job for low pay considering the education and work hours. The Principals get it from above and below. DCPS doesn't have their back and the teachers union makes it very difficult to manage poor performers (especially when they can't trust DCPS to support them).

It blows my mind that most DCPS Principals make less than $150K. I could get a really easy, 40 hour a week job for $150K. We need to compensate them better.

+1000

I would never be a DCPS principal for all of those reasons above. They also can’t make any actual decisions on their own. Everything has to be approved by central office. They micromanage in a way that damages their ability to get quality leadership. And it must be insulting to be told what to do by someone who taught for three years ten years ago who sits at home making slide decks with useless buzz words.

I don’t think they make less than DCPS

I meant they don’t make less than $150k

DCPS is expert at driving out the good principals.

I don’t think the timing is suspicious because the Van Ness principal announced she was leaving and the LT principal that she was staying on the same day.

And the Eaton principal announced she was retiring the same day too. It was clearly the first day that DCPS permitted these announcements.

This is the 3rd Shepherd principal in 7 years.

Seaton principal also announced that she is leaving that day

Same--I'd love an "easy job for $150k"!

All these principals leaving is not good for DCPS. It is especially not good for the individual schools. Lots on instability and uncertainty. 3 principals in 7 years is a very high turnover.

And the McKinley principal is retiring. Looks like there will be a lot of shuffle going on this year
