Probably just didn’t want the kid as bad or maybe exhausted the financial aid budget. These schools are giving most of the aid to kids they need like varsity athletes. |
Wow, congrats. Was your DC a gifted athlete, brilliant student or talented musician? What's the secret sauce? |
Not pp, but similar situation. A very generous FA offer in one school and 60 percent at a second school. Lower school, good student, some extra curricular that include a sport played at a recreational level. |
Some of the older schools have deeper financial aid funds because they have been around longer. Think Ivy League vs colleges opening in the late 19th or early 20th century |
This is what I always hear, but my best offers came from the "younger" schools. |
Share the schools, PP! Help other FA families out! |
Every school mentioned here has enough money to take who they want, except maybe Whittle. |
I think 60% is more than a generous offer. It amazes me how much FA people expect. |
I don't think they ever said that they "expected it" rather that they applied and were offered aid in varying amounts. |
That's not how it works. |
When you boil it down, it kind of is. They need a certain portion of the class to be full pay or full pay+, but for the rest all of the big names can afford to give as much aid as the need to get the kids they want. |
Aren’t there rules against athletic recruiting at the high school level around here? |
There are rules like the coaches can’t make first contact, but that’s about it. Recruiting in HS isn’t the same as college. Maybe they can get a leg up in admissions if they meet basic requirements. |
Depends on the school and what the rules are for the athletic conference they are in. |
This! It was not expected, but it was much needed (and I am grateful for the opportunity) because otherwise child would not be able to attend. |
