| You like your civic? The Honda Insight is a natural choice. Slightly larger and just as top safety and reliability ratings. I don’t own one, to be fair. |
| Have a Honda Clarity we are real happy with, but they stopped making them. A plug in with a small gas engine. Relative has a Nissan Leaf a few years old; is a pain as can’t go real far. Can’t get to their airport and back for example, In an emergency, if they had to bail and evacuate the area, they’d be in trouble. |
We have one and really like it. It looks like a Volvo, which is expected since they designed it. |

I got a really good deal on my Bolt. The battery recall was a bit annoying but I ended up with a new battery with more range so it all worked out.
Other than the battery recall, I've enjoyed the car quite a bit. It's very easy to drive and is extremely responsive. |
| Just buy a Tesla |
| We just put down a deposit on an Ioniq 5 and are excited to receive it at the end of the month! |
Good luck. Unless you're maxing out on pricey options it's like a 12 month wait from time of order. |

We have a 2015 VW e-Golf. It tops out in the 90s for range. We got it for $12k a few years ago. Absolutely love it. It is the only car we use unless we need to go on a road trip. Like others, we have a PHEV for that.
It drives like you would expect a Golf to drive. Takes corners well, parks easily. As an EV it obviously accelerates smoothly and quickly. I love small cars, particularly hatchbacks. It saddens me that there are limited options in EVs for this segment. And the ICE choices are generally the cheapest (and feel as such) cars. |
|
OP here. I love hatchbacks too, and would prefer one. The EV would be strictly for city driving/commuting so I don’t want it to be much bigger than the civic for ease of street parking. We have a larger gas powered suv for road trips (hoping to replace with a hybrid down the road).
I don’t like rear wheel drive cars because they are terrible in snow, which the VW is. BIL just got the Ioniq so might go and check his out. |
| We bought our 2019 Bolt in February 2021 for ~$19k. I think it had about 12k miles on it. It has been great for us. It received a brand new battery in December and our estimated range of late has been around 300 miles (I just looked and at 95% charged it is at 295 miles est. range). We really don't need much more in a daily driver. It has done well on a few longer trips (a few hours one way). |

We just put a deposit on a Volvo C40 recharge. Volvo’s first crossover, and first model to only be available purely electric.
I watched quite a few YouTube reviews of EV hatchbacks- Kia Niro, Ford Mach-E, Volvo C40. It’s a good intro to see trunk/frunk (hate that word) space, charging hardware, etc |

I like my Kia Niro EV a lot. Dealer in MD gave me a great lease price reflecting federal and state incentives, and my car has all of the bells and whistles (autodrive with a smart cruise, numerous sensors and safety features). The Niro is a good size inside (comfortably fits my family of 4 with two grown teens), and the car has a decent truck accessed via a hatchback that can turn quite large if you lower the rear seat. I like that it can turn on a dime, but the small, high efficiency tires will squeal with any pressure.
The new EV6 is a better car in almost every single way, but you are paying a lot more. |
kind of an aside, but i learned MUCH by watching EV youtube videos lots of information there for every model/make |
| Anyone have the Audi Etron GT? Just saw one on the road. Looks great. Want one but want to hear the kinks have been dealt with. |
Have been looking at maybe getting a used e-Golf to replace a 12-year-old Honda as our family's second car (our first car is an ID.4). What was the rated range for your 2015 new, or rather, how much do you think the battery degraded by now? The prices for used EVs are sort of wild, am wondering if it might not make more sense to just stick with the Honda for a while longer even though I'd love to get out of the gasoline game entirely. On the other hand, the price I can sell a 12-year-old used Honda for at this point is also sort of wild... |
