How often do your kids prepare for four to six months after six years of extra schooling to get the honor of being called up to read from the torah? On any other birthday my kids get a gift of $15-$50, but this is special and although I earn less than six figures, I save for this because it's important and special.

Definitely is special..but that does not mean there is a fee to attend.

No, but it is noticeable if you give a very small amount. It's like if you went to a birthday party and you gave a $2 gift and the other attendees gave around $20.
