College and University Discussion
I’m that poster, I’m a new poster and I’ve never posted about oberlin before, nor do I have a child looking at oberlin. Sorry but your conspiracy theory falls flat here. I read the article today and weighed in… an opinion piece circulating today in the wsj and probably other pubs will bring it to light for new people who hadn’t been aware of this six years ago. I had no idea it was that long ago. |
If it is any conciliation, there is a poster hater for a few schools on DCUM. |
DP. Oberlin probably has sufficient limits. The bigger problem for them is the punitive damages award because punitive damages generally aren’t unsuitable under Ohio law. There’s an exception when an entity is held vicariously liable for the actions of lower-level employees, but this suit was about actions of the administration so the exception probably doesn’t apply. The attorney fee award might also be subject to allocation based on covered vs non-covered damages. |
Seriously, no one cares. |

Seems like most schools have some dirty laundry when you go looking for it.
See Penn for example. |
Or USC who settled for $1.1 billion. |
And you are the forum police? |
This forum has recently been invaded by College Confidential nutjobs, many of them are moderators there with tens of thousands of posts. They are used to quickly banning anyone not in their clique, who disrupts their wacky echo chamber. |
They should have reinsurance above that |
I have to worry about someone who reads this forum so much that they claim there are “Oberlin haters” (I’ve never seen one) and feels it’s their job to be judgy and call them out. |
DP. I didn’t think this was true, as the last story I read indicated that the Dean of Students (Meredith Raimondo), who was the Administrator most involved in the incident, was still with the school. However, it appears that she left last December to become VP for Student Affairs at Oglethorp. The OberlinReview described her as a “much beloved and respected teacher.” So, the Administrator who slandered and tried to drive a family bakery out of business over a lie, resulting in tens of millions of dollars of damages for the school, received no consequences for her actions. Oberlin has yet to admit that anyone at Oberlin did anything wrong. There are lots of people on this board who think the way Oberlin handled this situation, from start to finish, was shameful. |
I'm guessing it's the University of Michigan loon who goes nuts anytime anyone posts something about the rust belt and flyover country. Michigan... Ohio... it's on brand for her to get triggered by this thread. |
Exactly. |
Ah. Thst makes sense -I guess. |
NP. Exactly. Oberlin was entirely at fault here. They *should* have to pay. And let that be a lesson to any other schools who try the same BS. |
