I thought the same thing!

I bought marmalade for the first time after reading Paddington to my kids. It was St dalfour brand (which we love for other flavors) sweetened only with fruit juice. It was okay but a littler bitter. Is marmalade always bitter?

No, I make my own, and add sugar, so I guess that cuts the bitterness?
