+1. One of the sad things about group care. It’s not about the child.

Enough with the daycare bashing. My child's daycare moved her up early to the room with a potty when she showed signs of readiness. Some daycares are flexible and there are waivers you can sign for ratio issues, etc.

Our daycare was great when we trained at 21 months. I agree to talk with them about willingness and a specific plan, and to make sure there’s access to a potty in the room. But if they have a set time coming up soon when they do the entire class, it makes sense to wait until there’s the routine and peer pressure from the entire class.

Parents are actually allowed to be critical of their daycares, PP. NP here.

+1. Seriously, do we have to love everything about daycare?!

I would expect that there would still need to be support from daycare. I am planning to talk to my daycare and coordinate about it, but just wondered what experience others have had with it. I'm reading that Oh crap book that is recommended and it says there is a window. in which to do it, so I want to do it in that timeframe.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in this, to be honest. It’s all very kid dependent. We tried in the “window” and it back fired immensely. Your kid may do great so not discouraging you from trying!! But I would think about if your kid is really ready or you are just trying to follow this advice and your heart isn’t in it

Our daycare introduces potty training at 16 months - and are very supportive of helping the kids when they are ready and show signs. My two kids were on different timelines completely at the same daycare and it was fine.

Just talk to them and tell them your goals and be honest with how it's going. They can and probably will help, but not if it's totally disruptive to the rest of the kids.
