I am defenseless, if I start going around my office creating a scene everytime someone asks me if a bombing suspect is a relative or if my marriage was arranged, I'm not going to have a job much longer. mentally and physically challenged individuals have great champions for their cause, who do I have?

Calling a situation retarded is entirely different than calling a person (who is mentally/physically challenged) retarded. I hear people say this all the time, and I say it myself, and really, its not that big of a deal. People need to lighten up.

i could be wrong, but i think it's an age thing. i'm 28 and all of my friends just throw this word around. maybe older folks are a bit more sensitive to its usage. i kind of compare it to when people say "that's so gay" even my gay friends say that. i think ppl with disabled children are a bit more sensitive, just like fertility challenged ppl are more sensitive to various comments.
