Infertility Support and Discussion
| 2ww begins around May 24. Refraining from buying any new clothes until I know I am pregnant for sure. Is that crazy? My logic is that I don't want to buy a bunch of outfits, find out I'm pregnant, and then not be able to wear them b/c I have to start wearing maternity clothes |
| I was thinking of doing the same, but then shopped a little this weekend out of desperation! (am in 2ww now). I figure if I am pregnant, I won't be showing most of the summer anyway, so not a big deal to buy some summer things, especially shirts/dresses! |

No.....but the title of your thread made me cringe.
I hope that you are pregnant since you are posting on the TTC I assume you have been "trying" for awhile and I was once in your shoes so I wish you luck. However, I do need to say as the parent of a child with developmental disabilities that many people find the use of the word retarded to be offensive....especially in the way you used it in your title...as if to say..."Am I stupid/dumb?" If you had someone close to you in your life who had cognitive delays you would feel differently about using that type of phrase......I don't think you meant to be harmful but I just felt I should say something and please view it as a 'teachable moment" Best wishes to you! |
| 16:15, well put. I clicked on this thread basically to say the exact same thing. Glad you beat me to it - I probably wouldn't have been as eloquent! |
| I can't believe that adults use this word in such an offensive way. Get a clue, mom-to-be. |

16:15--thank you...
|
| OP -- I would just be careful in delaying or changing your life too much because you are planning on being pregnant. I started to do that and then once I realized getting pregnant was going to take way longer than I expected, I quit. Now I buy my clothes, I plan my vacations and I take leave from work because otherwise I would have gone loco or crazy. I hope those terms don't offend anyone.... |
| 16:34 - you could use this as a "teachable moment" and realize that 16:15 made her point in a respectful way. I think people's ears are more open to respectful constructive criticism rather than abrasive, rude remarks like "get a clue." OP obviously meant no harm. 16:15 brought something to her attention and now she knows. No need to get SNARKY. |
| I've heard about the movement to stop using "the R word" and thought to myself "Seriously?? People still USE that word?" I guess they do. Surprising. |
| Whoa. OP used the word in a self-deprecating way - it wasn't as if she was calling someone with a disability retarded. I found it humorous. |
So, you find the imagery of mentally disabled people humorous? Because that is what "retarded" in that context is trying to do. |
| Geez louise. Lighten up. |
| you ppl crack me up, i'm middle-eastern and there is no pc police around when colleagues, classmates, random people at a party make totally insensitive racial remarks. but the second, someone drops the R-bomb, a brawl breaks out. |
Really, someone just got fired at my office for saying things about Muslims. |
| sounds like a nice place, are they hiring? |
