Failing comps at Basis

Same Problem, my daughter has tackled all subjects execpt Physics and she is very terrible at that, she is struggling to study for physics

We don't have personal experience but friends of ours had kids at Basis who initially were failing and it eventually worked out. Both ultimately passed, stayed at Basis, and are now doing fine in high school. Not sure if it was just that the kids weren't taking their studies seriously and failing was what it took to get them motivated, or if they needed special assistance. But either way, we understand it to have been an overall positive experience.

Can somebody briefly tell me what "comps" and "passing your comps" or failing them is specifically and implies for students? Not a BASIS parent but I hear this phrase and don't get it.

Ask your daughter to meet with the Physics teacher during student hours for help.

“Comps” are comprehensive exams, like in college. At BASIS, you must pass a comprehensive exam at the end of the year in order to move to the next grade. Passing means earning more than 60%, so the bar isn’t that high, and generally, if you just show up in class and do the work, you will pass.

However, if you have test anxiety, undiagnosed ADHD, etc., these things can reveal themselves and make it more difficult. The school does have supports in place, but this type of learning/testing doesn’t suit every child, so as always, you want to make sure you do the right thing for your child.
