Can somebody briefly tell me what "comps" and "passing your comps" or failing them is specifically and implies for students? Not a BASIS parent but I hear this phrase and don't get it.
“Comps” are comprehensive exams, like in college. At BASIS, you must pass a comprehensive exam at the end of the year in order to move to the next grade. Passing means earning more than 60%, so the bar isn’t that high, and generally, if you just show up in class and do the work, you will pass. However, if you have test anxiety, undiagnosed ADHD, etc., these things can reveal themselves and make it more difficult. The school does have supports in place, but this type of learning/testing doesn’t suit every child, so as always, you want to make sure you do the right thing for your child.
