| What makes you think she didn’t have a will and the money was distributed that way. Just leave it alone. |
| Just tell the Uncle that you’re sorry but you don’t know anything about it. Put it on him to figure it out. I seriously doubt he has a claim because these estates were settled years ago |
| Try a time machine. They be expensive but work good. |
| Why is Uncle just now asking about this, decades later, after your father is dead? |
| You can probably find a copy of the will in the County where she died. It might even be available online. Call the county courthouse and inquire. I'd be curious myself, but I wouldn't do it for the uncle. Why is he bothering you about it? |
| Who was paying the real estate taxes on the property? If no one was paying, it was likely auctioned by the county to the highest bidder. Family members have a limited amount of time to file a claim to collect any overage. |
| Sounds like you are beating a really dead horse OP. |
Agreed. What's in it for you? No way in hell I would go back that many years in search of records for someone else. If he has a question, he should do the research. |
| There is no way your uncle can "come after you" about this. |
| No, the IRS does not have your aunt’s paper tax return from the 1960’s. |
This message is full of confusing dates. Your great aunt died 15 years ago. This would be approx 2005. She purchased the land in the early 1900s! The subject is asking about a tax return from 1963. |
| Does it make anybody else uncomfortable that OP benefitted from her dad swindling her uncle, and now wants to “protect” herself against her uncle claiming what was rightly his all along? |
Nope. Not even a little bit. |
Ugh |
| Interesting thread hope the OP keeps us updated…..and yes feel like the dad swindle the uncle now he and his family wants what they inherited |
