| All I hear is about how even legacies were turned down this year at schools that were not thought of previously as competitive. Has anyone else seen admissions become very difficult this year at most schools? |
| Of course. Wealthy parents leaving the publics in droves for the past two years. COVID! |
| Is demand for privates way up everywhere or just in Montgomery County? |
Just in this area, NYC area, the major cities in California, and maybe some other areas, but most places the demand is down |
| I heard Gonzaga received over 50,000 applications. |
|
How on earth would you know this? |
I work with a consultant group that helps place kids in privates all over the US. |
Most places the pandemic had the opposite effect and there are less applicants. |
| NP having second thoughts about not even applying. Last fall we were thinking public would be fine, but now realizing that it's been a year that DC has cruised through while public teachers focused on bringing up the bottom. Does this imply there's really no point in calling around to see if anyone has openings? Both independent schools and parochial? |
Even in a normal year, there is little point in calling around at this point |
I’m in NYC suburbs and private applications are way, way up as are our real estate prices, as people move in. NYC itself vs the suburban areas are two different stories when it comes to applications. |
It’s always worth calling around. This area is very transient. Our kids go to a parochial school and I know the waitlist shuffles around all the way up to the first day of school. |
At this point in the year, wouldn’t they be working off their current waitlist? |
No, they will often go to new applications over the waitlist. This may not sound fair but in my experience from watching the process over 5 years it's what often happens. |
