Record Applications at local Private Schools?

Anonymous
Parents and admission teams have told us that they have never seen so many applicants at local privates--Sidwell, Gonzaga, Landon, Gonzaga etc. Has anyone heard the same message?

Yes. Multiple times, multiple places.

Think is dependent on the school...some have said a slight uptick but nothing outrageous...

Test optional makes a big difference.

Yes, it does. So many people applying to STA, Sidwell, Maret and GDS that wouldn’t have 80%+ SSAT scores.

SSSAS admission letter said “this year’s applicant pool was especially competitive.” Presume that refers to an increase in applications.

Been through this process for 3 kids in past 9 years. Every year, they will tell you that there was a record number of applicants.

Testing optional has nothing to do with an actually application being submitted. Now bad public schools and teacher unions, yes, that probably caused the spike. Not surprising.

they say that every year. I just went through the process with my 4th child.I was told that at the high school level it is still pretty competitive. Prek-3 less competitive compared to the last 2 years since parents are more comfortable with public schools adapting now through the pandemic.

And it may be true, but it is REALLY true since the 2020/21 season. A little thing called COVID.

Of course it does. There are other factors but not having to test eliminated one hurdle.

Those of us who went through this more than two years ago do not know what it is like since the pandemic. And it was bad enough then- I can’t even imagine now.
