How do you feel about QR codes and pay ahead at sit-down restaurant?

Love it

Would be so happy to send my drink order directly to the bar than wait for a waitress.

I patronize The Roost more than any other place specifically because they have this system for all the restaurants in the building.

No inane small talk, no waiting to try to flag down a server, just put your order in and get it a few minutes later. Paying ahead of time is the best because you don't have to do the stupid dance of asking for the check, waiting for them to come back and take your card, then waiting again to sign the receipt.

I hope every restaurant switches to this system.

what if you need a refill or extra napkins or to tell them your food isn't hot? Press a button on the screen?

Any public QR code is a security risk because scammers can print fake QR codes and cover the originals.

My DH would love this. I don't like the idea.

If I need a refill I order another drink. Napkins are on the table, if they were out I'd grab some from another table. If my food isn't hot I'd do absolutely nothing because I'm not the kind of Karen that complains to the manager about tiny inconveniences.

I adore it! I go out to eat with friends a lot. It is so much easier to separate checks and get what people want when they want it. And drinks come out so fast! I really don’t get why anyone would dislike it.

Hate it! I want service when I go out o eat.

I love it. Better than waiting for someone to take my order and hoping they get it right.

But then again, I didn’t dine out all that often during Covid. Is this the new normal? I tipped 20%, but I didn’t feel like I got 20% worth of service. I don’t like the whole QR code thing anyway because I don’t like having my phone out while dining. We’re so connected all the time, I’d like to dine with no phones in the open bc a text inevitably comes through and it’s distracting.
It is not fair if your battery runs out. They should either do "dark" stores listed on their sites and viewable from cars, or have a single menu for phonedead patrons. If they aren't even filling your water the tip should be "no tip, 10%, 15%", not "18%, 20%, or 25%". I think McDonalds has deals for app users and rapid service, but for the phonedead one can still wait in a long line and drive-thru.

thank you for writing about this. This just happened to me last week. I couldn’t get the code to scan. I was frustrated waiting for the server. My french fries arrived cold but there was no one to discuss that with once the food was dropped off. And I had already tipped the server.

The menu isn’t a problem for me but ordering and paying can be difficult if you have to create an account or the website is cumbersome.

I was never asked if I needed a refill. I had to jump up and walk across the restaurant to a bar area where there were some napkins. my sandwich was hot, but the fries were cold and gummy.

I don't feel good about it because I don't understand what a QR code is or how it works or how to DO whatever it is you do with it.

Love it too. I prefer a call button for service otherwise the process is streamlined.
Urban Hotpot has this downpat, food comes quickly since order is direct and there is no need to flag anyone down, just a button away.
