If by "potentially hurts everyone else" you mean a few kids miss out on their top choice Ivy because they missed being in the top 5 or 10% of their class, boo hoo. How else could "everyone else" potentially be harmed? |
OP I stand corrected ![]() |
I graduated from Robinson HS in the late 80s and we had multiple valedictorians and salutatorians. I think my senior class had around 1K students. It's been dumb for a long time. |
I think multiple valedictorians is ridiculous. In the old days, there might have been 2 students who tied for the spot. But with today's grading and AP courses, etc., having 200 so-called valedictorians is absolute nonsense. GPA's should speak for themselves on a student's transcript and applications. However, I don't see anything wrong with "ranking" students' GPAs so that students can determine where they stand/finished among their peers. It does mean something to be in the top 10% of your class, or the top whatever % -- but based on GPA, not 200 students with "#1" status then the 201st student gets the ranking of 201. That student had the 2nd highest GPA and should get that acknowledgment. |
