Do the high schools in APS do class rank?
|
Kind of. At W-L, anyone with a GPA of 4.0+ is given a rank of "1". Everyone below that has an actual rank. |
Yep. So you could be one of the 250 #1's or #251. There is no #2. |
Is that weighted 4.0? |
Yes, weighted. AP, IB, DE classes get the extra point. Intensified (aka honors) do not. |
It's crazy. My kid's private is old school and there is one Valedictorian and one Salutatorian. There are 1,100 students. I was in Ffx Co in the 80s at a high school of 2K and we had a single Valedictorian. I think grade inflation and everyone gets a trophy colors it. |
I wonder what college admissions thinks when they get 75 #1 ranked Applicants from the same high school ![]() ![]() |
This is so dumb. But so are class rankings. |
I'm sure the colleges who get that many know exactly how W-L does it. And, that it's to reduce the jockeying for .0001 point differences to get the top rank. It does seem to me they should just say we don't rank but this was their compromise. |
Why are class rankings dumb? |
Class rank benefits maybe the top 10 students in a class and potentially hurts everyone else. A great many schools are moving away from it. |
As in the top 10 students who should get a benefit? The truth is what hurts. Give everyone a trophy. |
So we now live in a world without class rank or SAT scores. Way to go America. Looking good. |
Yorktown does not rank. |
Wakefield does not rank. |
