OP here. We are neither conservative nor Catholic! We’re art lovers but not artists; music lovers but not musicians. We’re both huge readers and athletic. City dwellers. Both PhD’s (different fields). And tall (not that that matters 😂).

Is there an artist or musician you'd like to honor? Or an author?

NP here. Problem with that is if it’s a female author, you get into the double-name thing. Mary Virginia (Woolf), Mary Jane (Austen), Mary Ella (Fitzgerald), Mary Frieda (Kahlo).

OP would have to go to men only.

Except you can go Mary Woolf, Mary Austen, Mary Fitzgerald, Mary Kahlo.

Mary Rainer (after Rainer Maria Rilke - my all time favorite poet!).

I so wanted to name my DD Rainer but DH vetoed it big time.

What’s a last name you want to honor? I know a Mary Banks, maiden name of a grandma, and love it. When will she be born? I like say Mary August.

Of course! But we just had our one-and-only and she’s a girl.

Please tell me you know you can name a child for someone of the opposite sex. Both my boys have names that honor women.

Hmmm.... I love surnames but three in a row is a bit much. Mary August is good. Mary June is not.

With so many syllables already in her name,I would go with either no middle name or a single syllable middle name.
