Airport Starbucks -- are they just terrible?

Anonymous
I think hospital Starbucks are terrible too. Anyone else familiar with the one at Georgetown Hosp? My daughters have occasional surgeries there (both special needs) and, when they are in surgery, I am too nervous to wander too far, but the one Starbucks at the entrance is easy to find and I know my route back, so I inevitably head there, but the service is slow slow slower than molasses, the one attendant seems beaten down by life, the selection is about 1/10 of regular Starbucks, and you get battered by wind drafts and new i comets each time someone comes into the hospital from the parking drop- off. As I said, I really I only there because I am too nervous to go too far while my children are in surgery, and I am starving because we have had to leave the house at like 4:00 am to get there on time, and I know I have to be “on” again once my child is out of surgery and we wait for a room and then once in the rooms, I am there by myself since my husband cannot be there due to Covid. So I have to fuel up at this horrible Starbucks! We

Yep. They are pretty much all the same

X2 on the food not being fresh. I don’t understand anyone buying food there. It’s the worst.

Starbucks is always my coffee of last resort, I even prefer Dunkin. They have definitely lost their luster.

What’s the definition of madness? Doing the same thing…..

So stop going to airport Starbucks.

And lay off the staff. Do you think they want to be there enjoying your scintillating company?

Drink coffee at home. Get a soda at the airport of caffeine is that necessary.

These are never corporate owned, they are always licensed franchises. Just like the “Starbucks” you’ll find in a hospital, university, or other institution. They are always 5x worse than a normal, stand alone Starbucks. They are basically desperate for labor, since getting into an airport to do your job is a major PITA and terrible commute for a barely minimum wage job.

If I get coffee at the airport, it’s usually at a Dunkin or other place. But even DCA’s Dunkin is pretty awful.

The Starbucks at O’Hare are pretty well run. Long lines but they move quickly. Good isn’t great and service is generally a little less friendly than other Chicago locations but they are always busy and get people their drinks. I just wish they had the order ahead app at airport locations!

Anonymous wrote:in the pre-covid times, I once overheard a corporate manager person basically pleading with one of the two hourly employee at the airport starbucks kiosk to accept her promotion to store manager. She was like, "why me? i've only worked here for 6 weeks," and corporate was like, "you're the only person who shows up on time for every shift."

How? How did you overhear this and know one person was a corporate manager and two were hourly employees?

Airport Starbucks use substandard, cheap coffee beans. It’s getting worse all the time. I just dumped a $4 coffee into the trash in LAS Vegas. SBs takes their customers for granted now

This

They are management by the food vendor for that airport typically a company like HMS or Aramark runs all of the food establishments at a typical airport.

I highly recommend Mayorga at BWI. Very friendly service. In fact, everyone cashier I met in the terminal was super-nice and went out of their way to be helpful.

Perhaps it's that Starbucks at that airport?

I don't fly much - basically only use Dulles to get to Europe once a year. The Starbucks there are always perfectly fine.

NP. No. All airport Starbucks are lousy. They have long lines and employ low IQ people 😬

It’s more like the low IQ people are the ones who stand in long-azz lines and loudly complain about how they’re in danger of missing their flights because they NEEEEEEEEED Starbucks. I once saw a sign that estimated the wait was an hour at the Starbucks, and idiots were still standing in line. I smiled to myself as I walked three stands down to Dunkin.

100% this

Anywhere else, I would question the choice. But at the airport maybe you have a 3 hour layover or your flight was delayed for 2 hours and you have nothing but time to kill.

The airport is typically the only time I ever get Starbucks, and that's because I need a cup of coffee not because I want Starbucks.

Starbucks is bad but Dunkin is even worse.

I have never had an issue, but I just get a drip coffee with a splash of cream.

They are always busy so I order ahead as I walk to the terminal.
