+1 Helicopter and Tiger mom written all over it. WOW. |
Except this is not true. Top 10%. If a 4.5 still puts you in the top 11-20%, no UVA for you. |
Ok, I'll bite. My DS is at Mount Vernon HS , the "lowest performing high school in FCPS" according to test scores. Our scattergram for UVA: 1290 SAT, 4.37 GPA (this is the intersection of the two axis) VT: 1155 SAT, 3.97 GPA W&M: 1300 SAT, 4.41 GPA You're welcome |
You need a 4.5 1500 out of Langley for UVA unless maybe ED. |
well that is not always true. It was true in my kids school, but we have a friend who was not top 10% in another county school who did get in with a 4.5 and solid scores. HIs school got something like 30+ kids accepted compared to ours which accepted 10 or 11. It was generally understood that this particular class at his school was super strong. Same school one year later is not having anywhere near the same results. |
For all of the parents on this board who swear that admissions officers do not compare students within a school see evidence above. Your child is competing with students WITHIN their high school! |
I do not disagree with this. |
Very interesting--thanks! We're also at a "lesser" HS (Falls Church). Would post ours but unfortunately I don't have access yet. Here's my best guess at Oakton from the pic on the other thread: UVA: ~1475 SAT, 4.42 GPA VT: ~1370 SAT, 4.18 GPA W&M: ? |
Sorry, not directed at you PP. |
McLean UVA 4.4/1480 W&M 4.3/1460 |
| Interesting that the required GPAs are very similar but SAT scores wildly different. |
Most likely SATs don’t count for much with admissions but they seem to suggest 4.4 GPA at one school is not the same as at the other. |
Or maybe the 4.4 GPA Mt. Vernon kids would score just as highly if their families had the resources for expensive prep courses and to take the test multiple times. |
Chantilly is a CSS high school so it has more counseling support available for the students in that program. |
No I know - it was a just a general statement in support |
