| I don't really understand the appeal of the early college program if you can't transfer. There a lot of other less selective public universities in MD where he could attend in the Fall as a Freshman. Why not start at one of those and then transfer to College Park? |
You can transfer all the credits to state university. But admission depends how strong your overall application is. Early college students are different from dual enrollment students. Early college students in Montgomery County take all their classes together and specialized in Biological science, cybersecurity or something else. |
Because I have some of those questions that OP hasn't answered. Perhaps she hasn't seen the post again? |
| OP here. Thank you for all of the guidance and advice. The Freshman Connection list of classes includes classes that my son can take in the fall, as he is pre-law also. There are also some 200 and a couple of 300 level classes he can take. All 60 of his credits transfer from the Early College program so he is good from that standpoint. |
This is the question (answer) I’m interested in: Also, why is he admitted in the spring versus the fall? |
|
Jeez -- this is only 1 semester of a difference. Can he not just take some classes of interest, and have some college exposure/experience? |
Same poster again. I mean just do the Freshman Connection program, and not fuss about it. |
NP Usually spring admits application is not as strong as fall admission. |
Ok this makes sense. Thanks. |
|
OP - he should try to get rolling admission for Fall to UMD global campus - any courses taken there directly transfer / are recognized 1:1 by UMD CP - so he won't lose the semester - and that could be instead of or in addition to attending the freshman connection program
|
| How was you son accepted in the end? What year? How many credits were accepted by UMD? We are thinking about enrolliy into Early College but after reading this, not sure it's a good idea. |
Not the OP but UMD admissions is competitive. Freshman connection is basically admission for spring start but allowance to start on campus in the fall and take classes in the evening. Early college likely similar to AP classes and kids will have a range of outcomes ranging from getting accepted w merit to getting rejected. |
Not an expert but getting into UMD is not guaranteed- you have to get good grades. It sounds like these high school students who are in this program are accepted as “freshmen “ but their MC coursework should be accepted by UMD as long as they got a C or better so they should save a lot of time once accepted at UMD. |
| Anybody enrolled in Early Colege majoring in Cybersecurity? Can you transfer to UMD College Park with this major? Or where did your kids tranfer ? |
| If you look at MC’s Early College webpage, they have last year’s dual enrollment ceremony posted and a significant number of students enrolled at UMD, with a large number from the PTech program going into cybersecurity. |
