solid EC, but nothing national and no major awards
No hooks
high GPA
strong SAT (NM semifinalist)
but very round, not pointy, so its such a rarity to get in.

Princeton, early.

Very excited to see this.

well don't get too excited since the title of the thread is "its a crapshoot", as it will be for yours.

Agreed, these are not crapshoots.

Male, 3.7 weighted GPA, including two Cs. 1240 SAT. We felt like Pitt was a crapshoot after spending too much time reading this board. He's in.

Thank you, I feel seen. 3.8 weighted, 1280 SAT, in at Rutgers and Indiana. Deferred from Pitt, but just sent in mid year grades which included two C's. Kid is thrilled.

This makes me happy. Pitt was an unexpected surprise for DS a couple years ago and he is still thrilled with the school.

3.3 28 ACT private school and full pay fwiw

In at Penn State, Clemson, which were both surprises. A bunch of other schools too but were a little more in range.

This is NOT a crap shoot with those stats. Congrats!!! Where will he/she attend?

GT is a crap shoot for everyone these days. I have a family member with better stats in state who got deferred. Their acceptance rate is deceptive — they don’t play the marketing game and turn down lots of high stats kids.

What do you mean "they don't play the marketing game"?

I think poster means they do not try to artificially lower their acceptance rate. It may appear to be a more forgiving admit but it is not.
