It's a crapshoot! Got in stories.

What do you mean GT is a crapshoot? What does crapshoot even mean in admissions? TIA for the education.

As a parent of a junior I love this thread...keep them coming.

Any kids who shot way high and got in? That Princeton one was great!!!
I also have a younger kid who will not be as high stats as our junior, and the Clemson and Georgia and Pitt admits are fantastic- good, solid kids getting into great schools.

This board can make you think no one is getting in anywhere.

My junior is working their tail off at a Big three (OK, it's GDS..)and doing very well for our school 3.7 GPA in all advanced/honors classes and 35 ACT (took it already) and a great very unique extracurricular activity, but when I see this board I think that's not AMMMMAAAZING.... But then again when I see the seniors at our school doing really well so far, I wonder will this be my kid, or is this just the tippy top cream of the crop getting in early? The school has recommended some places that seem like BIG reaches so I like hearing about some people winning the lottery.

Congrats to all! YAY!

All the Ivies are a crapshoot without a hook, national awards (including NMF), published research, etc. I want to see a run of the mill kid with excellent an excellent GPA with run of the mill EC's like tennis, track. No heavy community service. Just your every day run of the mill kid who is not an overachiever who gets into a reach school.

It's Clemson.

In at Penn State, Clemson, which were both surprises. A bunch of other schools too but were a little more in range.

This comment is from the same moron who commented with haha on a NYU thread where I posted that my DD was rejected ED2. What is your point? Both Clemson and PSU are great schools and many kids get rejected. Why are you so miserable?

Thanks so much! We are thrilled since it was a reach. I guess it can happen. Lots of mean people on this forum so I do appreciate your congrats.

high GPA
strong SAT (NM semifinalist)
but very round, not pointy, so its such a rarity to get in.

Princeton, early.

I think people overstate the "kids have to be pointy to get in" mantra. Many of the kids who get into to Ivies from DC's private are "round" -- sports captain, student council, school paper, etc. It's good to be round if you're a leader/active participant. What schools don't want is a kid who is a member of 10 different clubs and really does nothing.

Congrats to your daughter!

Yes, I saw that, which is why I posted so late. But, I was thinking it earlier as were many others, I'm sure. I think the supportive far outweigh the nasties. They're just less vocal. That is great news!!! Hooray for your kid!

I think private is the key word here, at least when it comes to top schools. Not to say that rounded can't get in from publics, but the ones we know that got in early were high stats and pointed. The bar is different for private.

Don’t be an ass. Do you feel better trying to put down my child who is very happy about his acceptances? Good grief. I need to get off these boards.
