SO: where do you shop if you’re 35-40?

40 - Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack, J Crew, BR, blah. Don't really care that much anymore.

I’m newly 40:

Uniqlo for coats, jackets, hoodies, linen blouses
Nordstrom for shoes
Target for their Universal Standard T-shirts
Madewell for jeans
Vuori for joggers and shorts mostly
Toad&co for T-shirt’s
LLBean for sweaters, flannels, fleeces

I’m a SAHM and still have a decent work wardrobe from Jcrew.

What do you mean by “older stuff”? Serious question. What brands?

When I first started working, 15 years ago, women’s professional clothing had features that now are very hard to find: fully lined pants, 100% wool, shell buttons, hidden zippers, 100% silk etc.

Some brands that had these features then and now typically don’t include: Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers, J Crew, and Banana Republic. Talbots to some extent.

Many people buy designer on Poshmark as well.

Nordstrom
Shopbop
Netaporter
Aritzia
Eileen Fisher

Skin
Ace & Jig
Everlane
The RealReal - old Vince from back when they actually used natural fibers, The Row or similarly expensive high end brands I can’t afford new

I am 39
Like PP, I miss fully lined pants, and even dresses now don't always come fully lined. Honestly, wtf?

I shop wherever. I shop online (GILT, RueLala - although used to be much better value) and Zulily for just basic basics.

TJMaxx, Nordstrom Rack, outlets. Costco and Gap for atheleisure ...

I’m 50 and like J C Penney’s and Kohl’s. For casual clothes, I like Walmart (the quality is better than Target and the prices are better). I hate spending lots of money on clothes, too.

^pp I meant to say that I think Walmart’s quality is better than Target and the prices are comparable to Target (I don’t know if they’re better).

Check out clearance at Nordstrom Rack. TJ Maxx (can be VERY hit or miss). Revently got some thrifted Old Navy sweaters that are surprisingly well-made, but the current inventory looks pretty bad (go to thrift stores in/near affluent neighborhoods - you can find amazing things). I also like the sales at Banana Republic.

I agree with this.

OP here. Fair enough! I’m asking because i want to blend in. I want to look like the average of every other woman my age. My personality is loud enough.

36, same size as my 20s/before becoming a mom:

Everlane
Brass Clothing
Boden (I generally get dresses and end up sending back half of what I’ve ordered but have some great dresses from there- the florrie dress and the kitty shirt dress are two recent favorites)
Zuri (sleeveless only)
Quince
Mother Oxford (have the black and white shirt and love them, the shirt dress was a pass for me, I’m petite and I was swimming in the smallest size)
Bleusalt
NYDJ for jeans

Purses
Lo and sons
Cuyana

Shoes
Nisolo
Timberland (their non work boots styles for women are surprisingly comfortable and stylish)
