Spoiler alert no one wants to look after your 'sweet' kid for $10/hr

Former nanny. People will pay outrageous amounts for gym, clothing, purses, but skimp on childcare. The one thing that can't be replaced....your child. Their well-being. This lady will get what she pays for.

And she’s not employing a nanny! She needs a pt babysitter for 4 hrs a day. Either way, she needs to pay much better!

I don't think she got the memo about the "Great Resignation".

+1

I'm in a couple of mom Facebook groups that lean more towards religious, conservative, low cost of living areas of the country, and most of them are paying $8-12 per hour for a nanny. $15 is considered extreme. I've actually stopped contributing to any threads about nanny costs because my $25 per hour is so far from what's typical that it derails the whole thread with confused, flabbergasted people.

Location makes a huge difference OP. Where is this?

If it were a low col area she wouldn’t be having the problems of sitters not showing up. It’s clearly her rate and attitude.

Parents always say their child is the most precious thing on earth…but their behavior surrounding paying for childcare belies this claim. SMH.

She she do what a lot of working moms do…take advantage of a stay at home mom. They work for free.

PT childcare is always a struggle. No one can live off of 4 hr/day work so unless she finds someone who is really just doing a job for fun (not likely), she’s going to be out of luck because any good employee will find something full time.

She mentions her husband is deployed so if she lives on/very close to a military base she could probably get another military spouse who also has a young kid to watch her kid. The "side money" as she calls it, would be perfect in that situation.

She can find someone who wants "side money" and who can bring their own kids. I think she may have the same reliability issue, but that's on her.

Someone will take her job offering. No one is forcing someone who wants more money to do so though.

You all are very out of touch. $20/hr for 20 hr/week is $1600/month. This is the rate of full time day care for a 1 year old where I live in MD. I know a ton of people who can't pay that and cobble together what they can. I assume that's why this poster is only looking for a PT babysitter. It's not "cheap" to not be paid enough to pay your own bills and a living wage for a second adult, it's just sad.

IMO, find a youngish empty nester who can't/doesn't want to work FT. My mom babysat for low pay because she was not educated, and stopped working FT but wanted the extra cash.
