As other said apply and find out. Mcps is already under staffed so that will be a factor in how many spaces will have in a virtual program, especially knowing that for some families if they don't get virtual they might not necessarily enroll their kids in person they might just choose to homeschool or do some other independent virtual program.

That is not at all a factor in their numbers. Stop speaking on something you know nothing about.

We are going virtual starting this year. Less distraction from drama, more focus on academics and we will build social skills outside of school.

I heard there was a guarantee of 3 years of Virtual Academy...then after that, who knows!

Middle school and high school is a big hit among students and parents. They will continue until this group graduates through. There is nothing to not like about virtual academy at this point. A lot of time for kids to be social with friends and family.

I would love to have the option to take specialty courses online. For example, our middle school only offers Spanish and French. I strongly prefer having my child take another language. If he could take just foreign la fishermen virtually, then we would definitely do that. They could combine kids across schools that don’t offer, say, Latin, into one class. But he would want to be in-person for everything else.

+1 million! COVID is NOT going away. Let parents put their kids in Virtual if they are concerned, for as long as they want.

And while we’re at it, let’s go mask optional.

They can cap virtual academy enrollment a lot easier than other school enrollments.

Entitled parent, if you want mask optional now you can homeschool.

What are you talking about? They don’t have enough funding or staff. They cannot expand without those things.

They are talking about it in the future.

Don't know if it's permanent but I'm guessing that they are going to take applications in order to determine staffing

It is permanent.

Do they have a permanent source of funding yet? My understanding is that initially the money is coming from Covid funds

Once it's worked through startup costs, it'll cost less than seats in a physical building.

Yeah I think this would be a great use of the virtual program. Right now there are a lot of courses only offered at particular schools.

There still needs to be money earmarked for it, which takes money away from the existing budget items. And those items don’t necessarily cost less because there are a few students not in the classroom. Those students are still on the rolls of their existing schools, which means they still get certain services provided by them. It’s not necessarily an overall cost savings for the system, or even a wash.

can someone who has had a child enrolled give us feedback about HS?
