Has anyone successfully kept other kids from getting covid in the same house?

Too late. When I find it out, everyone is exposed and positive. Kids have no symptoms.

Yes, one kid didn’t get it when the others did, but they had a recent 2nd shot of the 5-11 vaccine. We surgical masked and somewhat distanced when we needed to be in common areas and didn’t do things like have family meals all at the same table while symptomatic.

COVID is a strange disease and can be kind of random in who it effects. DH and I both had COVID over Christmas time so we could not isolate from our kids. We wore masks the whole time but did eat with the kids unmasked. Neither child got it and we tested multiple times.

Our good friends had one child test positive. He is 4 and not vaccinated (obviously) and they tried to get him to stay in his room as much as possible but it was really hard since he is young and didn’t want to be alone. He wore a mask as much as possible when he wasn’t in his room. Anyway, they are on day 10 and no one else has tested positive except for their nanny, who they haven’t seen since last week when their son got sick (nanny didn't get sick until early this week).

There is definitely a chance it won’t spread but you just never know.

It's possible. BIL was positive and sister and nephew never ended up having it. They live in a two story home. He stayed upstairs and was double masked when needing to go down. This was in September during Delta so he isolated for 2 weeks. Despite a PCR in beginning, a couple rapids at home in between, and one more PCR after the 2 weeks, sister and nephew were fine.

We are on day 10 now for DD we have tested DS every day and DH and I tested the first 3 days and every other day since. All negative. DD has her own room but comes out with a mask to use hall bathroom. Nobody else is using that bathroom. All vaccinated and DH and I are boosted. Everyone told me it was too late and I agreed it probably was but we figured we’d try and as soon as a second person tested positive we’d give up. But nobody has and three of four are still negative as of yesterday, day 9, and DD was negative Friday, day 8, though continued to isolate as we tested at 7pm. Negative again yesterday so she came out with a mask for a little while. She will mask again today and then back to normal Monday. And going to school. Woohoo! DS is vaccinated but we kept him home until day 6 and we will continue ie to test him every day this week. Thank goodness for insurance reimbursement on home tests.

Op here. We just tested everyone and the rest of us are still negative. We also tested Covid child and he is still positive. He is Day 6-7 depending on when we consider Day 1. Covid child still has a cough and runny nose so we are continuing to keep him in his room isolating.

I am glad my unvaccinated preschool child is still negative. She can go back to school this week.

I know you are just following the preschool’s rules, which you are absolutely entitled to do, but it makes no sense to me that your unvaccinated child is allowed back at school while you still have a symptomatic child at home. She could catch covid from him tomorrow. Some of these rules make no sense.

Sounds like what happened to us. DH got a bad case of COVID a few weeks ago. He isolated as best as he could in our guest room, ate separately from the rest of the family in the dining room, and wore a mask whenever in the common areas, but realistically, our house isn't big and there was only so much we could do. However, neither I nor our two toddlers ended up getting it. Three weeks after the fact, DH is still not back to 100% and gets fatigued in the afternoon easily. We both received the vax + booster and are generally in good health. It's just bizarre.

Fortunately we live in a 12,000sf so we have been able to isolate Covid child. He has been isolating in his own room. We have been bringing him food in his room and have been able to keep him away from the rest of the family.

I believe technically he can come out masked but Dh and I decided to keep him isolated since he still has a cough. I don’t want him coughing around the house even in a mask.

Most of these stories involve older kids or parents. My unvaccinated toddler had a positive exposure at daycare yesterday. We immediately began masking at home (toddler too, they mask at school and uses the little kid kn94), but it’s impossible to isolate him. I’m starting to wonder if this effort is even worth it given he sleeps in my bed and we’ve been together the past few days sans masks. Any parents successfully keep Covid from spreading from their toddler?

My oldest, and only vaccinated child got it. The non-vaccinated ones didn't. No symptoms, negative on rapid test for them all. Children are plague rats for nearly everything except covid, it seems. We semi-isolated him, but I'm not going to vouch for what extent he was actually isolated, given the younger siblings' penchant for hanging outside his room in the hallway before being told to scatter.

At least the weather is good now. Keep the windows open. Let him spend time outside in the sun.

My toddler brought COVID home and was coughing and snotting all over everyone. My wife, me, and our other two kids never did get it (adults vaccinated the boosted with moderna, kids two shots pfizer)

My husband tested positive on a Tuesday, I stayed upstairs with 3 and 1 yo kids while he lived in basement for several days. 3 yo tested positive on that Friday (from the initial exposure) so she went to the basement with dad immediately. 1 yo and I never got it.

I don’t know if I’d go to all this trouble again, it was very hard to live separately. But since my 1 yo can’t mask I felt we should try to lessen the viral load he was exposed to. If my kids were both older we would have just masked strictly and stayed together.

Yes. Covid kid stayed in room for 5 days with IPad. Nobody else in our family got covid. DC used a mask when using the bathroom/leaving the room/opening the door.

Yes - pre vaccines one kid had Covid and none of the rest of us (4 people) got it from her. We didn't isolate or anything. Even continued her sharing a room with a sibling. I mean at the point we found out (completely asymptomatic) it was pointless to isolate her. Plus how can you isolate a 5 year old?
