OP again... nuts! I just remembered it is my turn to bring snack to nursery school (22 kids) on Wednesday. Plus a drink.
|
Oh that sucks. Huge box of gold fish with some dixie cups to serve, and can you buy large bottle of juice instead of juice boxes? You could buy frozen concentrate apple juice and mix with water. |
| pasta pasta pasta! |
| I love this chain! Get 'er done, ladies. I have soo been there. |
Ugh, snack and nursery school. Can you trade with another mom? Obv do not tell her why you need to trade, but trade
|
| What about popcorn? If you have a hot air popper (or can borrow one), that's really, really cheap. Applesauce (in a large jar)? Or if you have staples at home, what about something home made? Oatmeal cookies? PB cookies? Rice krispie treats? |
|
Eggs! Very cheap and you can add whatever frozen veggies are on sale or grate a little bit of your cheese on top for scrambled eggs or omelets. You could slice some of the whole grain bread you make egg sandwiches. If you have mayo then you have egg salad.
Try to find a cheaper grocery store like Shoppers and then buy what is on sale. |
| For the class drink make lemonade. You just need some lemons and sugar. If you push a few strawberries through a sieve you can get pink lemonade. |
| If you can make bread then you could probably make breadsticks. Twist them so they are more decorative. If the snack can be sweet try rolling them in some cinnamon sugar. You could buy a bunch of bananas usually 39cents a lb at shoppers and serve alongside the bread sticks. |
Lemons are expensive. This is not a frugal idea. |
|
This is too easy:
Shopping list: Family pack bone-in split chicken breast ground beef pasta pasta sauce (whatever is on sale) bananas apples sweet potato broccolli forzen peas/carrots loaf of bread frozen OJ milk - non-organic rice eggs chiken broth (about 4 cups) 2/3 green bell pepers (but they can be expensive) So many things to do with the above - roast chicken, chicken noodle soup, chiken salad, fried rice, deviled eggs, spegetti and meat sauce, baked pasta, stuffed peppers....I could go on and on... The drink can be orange juice and banana smotthies...yummy. (You can add a single serve strawberry or banana flavor yogart as well) |

" ?? a lemon is maybe 70cents and it would only take 2 maybe 3 for a pitcher, much cheaper than juice boxes or a carton of juice. You could even buy the concentrated frozen lemons for less at 1.30. |
Have you ever made lemonade? Seriously? For a pitcher you would need a minimum of 6 lemons if you want it to have any flavor. Plus the amount of juice per lemon is not consistent. Some are jucier than others. Which means you could end up needing more. Sorry, fresh lemonade is not frugal. I think you should try making fresh lemonade. Frozen concentrate is another subject. You did not initially suggest this. You suggest lemons. |

" You are making lemonade for a preschool class not a wedding banquet. I have made lemonade for the preschoolers and it only took 2-3 lemons, tasted fine for preschoolers, and they loved it. I suggest you bug off. |
OP again -- PLEAAAAAASE don't fight about the lemons! It was a fine idea. I'm going with popcorn and water though. I don't even have an extra $2 for lemonade.
Good news, I found $10 in a pocket! Woo hoo! Bad news, DS has a field trip -- needs $8. So, I'm up $2. Party time!!! |
