Traffic stop for speeding in MD

Anonymous
30 and more over is a “must appear” in MD. Story not credible.

No one is getting a verbal warning for 40 over. That means 65mph in a residential neighborhood, 75-85mph on a road like Rockville pike or Connecticut Ave, or 95-110mph on I-270.

You’re not getting away with a verbal warning for any of those scenarios.

My DH was pulled over on the empty Dulles toll road going 15 over and he had to show up in court and pay fines. I’m actually grateful to the cop because it finally got him to slow down since then.

That’s in Virginia, which is completely different and not relevant to this conversation.

70 mph on an empty stretch of highway? Oh, the humanity!

You probably mean 20 over, which in VA is a reckless driving charge and mandatory court appearance.

My guess is OP's record check came back clean, and the officer didn't want to bother with all the paperwork of the reckless charge (in MD it's 30 over), or they may have just receive another urgent call.

After being stopped the officer checked my documentation, when everything checked out he told me I could go but needed to slow down

I expected to be issued a citation (or worse!) on the spot but that did not happen.

Can I expect something in the mail?

I think you either:

A) are making up this whole thing (40 over?!?! 20 would’ve been more plausible)

or

B) have oral skills that are absolutely otherworldly.
