Traffic stop for speeding in MD

Anonymous
I was stopped for speeding last week, I was exceeding the posted limit by a lot (40mph). No excuses, totally unacceptable behavior and I will deserve any punishment I get.

After being stopped the officer checked my documentation, when everything checked out he told me I could go but needed to slow down

I expected to be issued a citation (or worse!) on the spot but that did not happen.

Can I expect something in the mail?

No, you didn't get a ticket. Carry on.

OP, a close family member of mine was killed by a speeding driver.

I don't give a shit whether or not you get a ticket. But please, SLOW DOWN. Driving 40 mph over any posted speed limit means you are a menace.

you were 40+ over the limit and the cop let you go? that sounds absolutely crazy. i got pulled over for doing 110+ in wyoming once coming back to denver from yellowstone. no ticket. buy wyoming is no MD. where was this?

And more importantly, what is your race?

Do you really have to ask? It was probably also a white range rover. OP, you got off without any consequences so hopefully you are more mindful of your speed. I’ve never done more than 75 over but that was a long time ago.

No you will not get a ticket in the mail. You got lucky. Pay it forward by slowing down. If you license has no points and there are no priors of the same, you’d odds are good for being let off… especially it’s at night. They don’t want to goto court during the day when they’ve just worked a night shift….. DUIs though are a whole different ballgame.

No you got a warning. You are very very lucky you weren’t arrested. Cop was probably changing shifts or got another call and had/wanted to go.

They did not get a warning they got let go with nothing.

+1 There is such a thing as a written warning but OP did not get one.

Wow.

Non-traffic cops will use a traffic situation to pull you over and then hope that your license comes back with a warrant or they smell pot or you're drunk.

It's called a pre-textual stop.

Cops use pre-textual stop to harass poor and black people all the time. Taillight out, pull over, headlight out, pull over, bumper looks "unsafe" pull over, crack in the windshield pull over.

I’m calling BS.

No one is getting a verbal warning for 40 over. That means 65mph in a residential neighborhood, 75-85mph on a road like Rockville pike or Connecticut Ave, or 95-110mph on I-270.

You’re not getting away with a verbal warning for any of those scenarios.
