Intense Pain After First Peloton Ride

Agree with everyone else here. Do 20 minute rides. Stretch before and after, especially the IT band -- look up Figure 4 stretches for the IT band.

I have the WORST pain along the backs/sides of my thighs right now. Google has convinced me I've given myself rhabdomyolysis. I am literally the least fit person EVER so I don't know the difference between standard peloton soreness vs. giving myself a freaking kidney disease because I took one peloton ride. (Though the good people on the r/peoton sub insist that most rhabdo cases in peloton are in new riders so that's not helpful)

muscles = back and sides of thighs
Rhabdomyolysis = kidneys

well, one of the symptoms is intense muscle pain. Rhabdomyolysis is caused by overexerting yourself and your muscles release toxins which cause the kidney disease. It's common in new peloton riders (because they think the workout is fun/not super strenuous) and crossfitters of every level (because they are insane)

If I ride hard the muscles that are sore are my quads ie front of my legs not the back or sides. Maybe you overstretched your hamstrings and the long band that run down the side of your leg.

You’re fine. Give it two weeks. Your butt will be sore when it hits that saddle but that really does go away in two weeks.

take the mastering the basics program.

Is this muscle pain or crotch pain? Because whenever I go back to spinning after taking a many-months break my crotch hurts for a week from sitting on the seat.

The sudden loss of money from your wallet has left your hip/thigh suddenly unsupported.

I got a Peloton last year (worked out regularly prior, took spin classes pre-pandemic and ran 10Ks/half marathons). I was sore after my first workout, it works different muscle groups and (to me) the bike rode differently than the ones at my cycling gym. 35-40 minutes is a LONG first workout too; I've never even done one longer than 30 minutes.
