Is Rolls Royce the only car company that does this?

Some gorgeous Rolls Royces are decades old. When a friend in Wales took me for a ride in his Silver Ghost, people actually curtsied around us. To get that car, you’d have to buy it used.

Good day ‘Ol chap, do you have any Grey Poupon?

I read the BS lines the RR dealer in Pasadena, CA is trying to sell. I get the same treatment and service from the Cadillac dealership for way less.

I love this BS sentence. “you’ll be treated to a cutting-edge facility with state-of-the-art equipment.”

Am I getting service? Deep tissue massage? Hot face towel?

Or I can just unscrew the drain plug on the oil pan, dump the old oil in a catch tray, spin off the old filter and spin on a new one, put the drain nut back on, throw 6 quarts of ___W-____ back in the engine, have a beer, and save myself $1,000.

Because that’s all an oil change is. It’s not witchcraft. I was doing oil changes when I was 9 years old. (It’s easier to fit a kid under a car!)

Those are classics - not just “used”. A car has to survive long enough to become a classic. Most don’t.

If it manages to survive long enough, it may become a classic, but that's a big if. The old top gear did an episode about buying a used rolls for the same price as a Nissan, the catch was that the Rolls had a service bill that was also the same price as a Nissan. For perspective, here's a RR dealer in Pasadena explain the $650-$2000 oil change https://www.rollsroycepasadena.com/service/service-and-parts-tips/rolls-royce-oil-change-cost/. Do you think the forth owner buying the car on at a buy here pay here lot 15 yers from now is going actually pay that?
$650-$2000 for an oil change is a rip off. How much do they charge to wash your Rolls Royce, $500?
