If you’re umc and you’re kid is not a good student… how did you parent?

Yes, I know that! I’m in the math field. That’s not what it is.

Wrong. Anyone without a learning disability can be at least moderate with math

If it’s any help to you (or her), here’s how I taught my kids negative numbers:

So what is it that you are seeing? A difficult time memorizing steps? Or can’t memorize math facts? Doesn’t understand abstract concepts?

I’m so sorry for her parents who pay this person who is so unsupportive in their attitude towards her.

Exactly! I am incredibly grateful for my child’s math tutor. I know she would never say anything like this and is a complete source of support for my child!

I’m very supportive. I do not show my disappointment for her parents. I don’t blame kids. I do blame her parents however. They waited until she is a junior to get any help. Now her SAT score will be very low. I think it’s irresponsible for her parents to know she needed help and chose now expecting miracles because she’s a junior who is going through the college process soon.

Ironic since you don't understand basic elementary grammar. you're= you are

And OP sounds like he/she is in the wrong profession. Parents have little control over how their children’s brains work. Nor, do they control the school curriculum or caliber of math teachers that the child has had up to now.

I suggest that you gain some life experience before you weigh in on this topic. And switch to dog walking.

Anonymous wrote:The question really is what is wrong with the school that they haven’t caught it? My dyslexic kid went to 4th grade unable to really read. Every year from k-3, I went to the school and expressed concern and they told me she was fine. She only got help when I found $4k to have an assessment done privately.

My other kid was diagnosed with so-called stealth dyslexia after junior year of high school. She is incredibly bright and faked it through FCPS AAP without anyone knowing.

Why do you assume the school hasn't flagged it? I'm a teacher and I cannot tell you how many former students I have whose parents have not agreed to the findings of the IEP team.

I have stated that I understand it. I’m not sure how a typing error relates to parents not getting their kids’ help before it’s too late is related to that.

OP is not mature enough to be a tutor.

It’s not my career. I was sought out to help. I’m not blaming the kid. I’m not sure how well off parents wouldn’t give their kids what they need.

Yes, I’m sorry, I should’ve gotten a maturity test before parents sought me out to tutor.

I don't get. How did your student get to her junior year without her teachers noticing her math is at the 3 rd grade level. Are you exaggerating or she attens an awful school?
