Non-alcoholic drink at business dinner

Overthink this no percent. I'm just having water! I'll have a tonic with lemon! Do you have diet coke or pepsi? A club soda with lime please.

sprite and club soda look the exact same

so not sure where that’s coming from

When I was younger and worked with graduate students, I would order a mocktail and no one was the wiser. Order it from the bar and take it to the table. Otherwise, glass of wine and nurse it.

I would order a bottle of the fancy sparkling water, pellegrino or whatever, which they'll serve in a separate glass.

you’d rather say can i get a sprite with syrup ?

No, I'd rather an adult not order a child's drink.

It’s a kids drink. Sugar on top of sugar

OP said no sprite

sprite in a glass would look exactly like club soda

I have never ever as an adult worked or socialized with anyone who paid attention to what someone else was drinking. Who are all these people that are preventing you from sticking to water or soda?

This is 2022 you can order whatever you want- the health . / sober curious/ just not drinking / etc movement is huge and doesn’t have any explanation required. If you want to overthink it get a club soda with lime or a tonic with lime. (The former is what I like anyway)

y’all are nuts

sprite and club soda look the exact same

if you order a club soda vs. ordering a sprite the end result is the same

it’s still a carbonated non alcoholic drink

op bottom line feel empowered to order what you want
and don’t think not drinking makes you lame

So I am a stone alcoholic, and drink a lot with clients and colleagues. I love it. For better or worse, I’m very high functioning and have a successful career, even with a level of consumption that would make your jaw drop.

I wouldn’t give a single F about a colleague choosing not to drink. Get a club soda, get a Diet Coke, get a bag of caramels for all I care.

Point is: no one’s going to care. The normal social drinkers won’t. And the people like me know enough not to needle someone who either doesn’t drink or is trying not to.

Just don’t be boring!

Sorry, me again: please don’t order a Shirley temple or a virgin pina colada.

Club soda with lime.

Y’all are so weird. No one cares. I rarely drink because I have no tolerance. Half a glass of wine makes me tipsy. I ordered a Coke and don’t give it a thought.
