Haha. Try again. It’s because DC is one of the most EDUCATED areas in the country. Folks with college education and above vote for Democrats. |
| Political parties have reflected town/country divides since the advent of political parties and that divide holds in most western countries. DC just makes it obvious because there is no country within its borders |
This. Read the links posted earlier. There's nothing special about DC -- its just urban. |
In the last several decades, it's pretty simple: Lots of minorities live in cities, and liberals are much more likely that conservatives to be comfortable living in close proximity to minorities. |
| There's also the fact that many people become more liberal when they move to cities. There are legions of stories of people who grew up in small conservative towns who move to the big city and change their views. I know several people who have. They realize that people of different colors, religions and nations don't bite and in fact, can be wonderful people. They also realize how the conservative policies of their home towns/states are detrimental (I'm looking at you, Southern States with the highest poverty/obesity rates and lowest quality of healthcare and education). |
| Fear. Fear of change. Fear of people that are different. Fear of science. Fear of govt. |
What question are you answering? |
Same for liberals these days. Fear of people saying things that while true are unpalatable to their narrative, fear of scary words at the university level, or fear they won’t have a “safe space”, shunning people who think differently, hating successful people, hating police and laws where criminals face actual penalties, hyperbolic sensationalist tales and histrionics over small issues, anxiety, a desire to engineer equality of outcome over equality. |
You sound deranged. I am a liberal DC resident and don't have any of these qualities. Also pretty great to accuse us of both being anxious and histrionic AND also embracing crime and lawlessness. |
| DC literally wouldn’t exist without government. And the more the government spends, the richer DC residents get. So it makes sense that they’re pro big government and pro big government spending. Self preservation. |
Both of these statements are true. DC is full of government bureaucrats and people who suck at the teat of the taxpayer. Of course they vote for Democrats. The government is their only source of income. |
| The District was founded as an empty space that would be filled by people representing populations elsewhere. There was no industry here other than that necessary to support the growing government. There is no culture or history of business except those that prosper through federal contracts. |

I feel like this is the perfect question to go and ask your local public librarian. They would probably be able to quickly pull a dozen books for you directly relevant to the point covering political science and the history of DC. I am sure that they would love to help you with this research too.
Otherwise I think most PPs have covered it. Bipartisanship in local communities is more rare than people assume. The choice of governing party is due to historical reasons that align with socio-cultural factors aligning with practical needs for reinforcement of rules that comport with living in higher population densities. |
What the heck? What backwater nonsense is this |
Fear of new ideas, fear of god, fear of LGBTQ, fear of truth, fear of masks for crying out loud. |
