| why does k-2 take MAP literacy and math but parents only get the MAP math scores? |
I am curious about that as well. So far, I only receive MAP math score in November (for the fall). |
Bumping. Wondering the same. |
This is correct. K-2 reading scores are not shared, but your teacher does get some info so you can ask for it. |
Not PP, but I have asked teacher to share with me, and teacher hesitated a bit. She says she is not supposed to share with me, anyone knows the reason why? But she shares with me my child's reading level (level G from MAP winter reading test at kindergarten level) but there is no reading score given. |

I wouldn't worry about it. The actual results for the K-2 reading section are pretty worthless. It's not the usual MAP report you're thinking of.
If your kid gets 100% of the questions in a section correct, they are given the "Meets grade level" designation for that portion. If they get a one or two wrong, like 13/15 or 9/10, they get the "Approaching grade level" designation. Not sure for the rest. There is no score beyond that or percentile. |
How about k-2 MAP math test, are the test similar to the format for MAP math tests given to grade 3 and above? Or MAP math test score is also considered worthless? |
The K-2 MAP math results are the same as in later grades, and they have scores and percentiles and show district and normalized means. I guess they don't do that for the reading test because there is such huge variability in skill at that age? Maybe it's not informative yet? |

K-2 takes Map-RF, which measures fluency more than comprehension. The score are in terms of words per minute and other foundational skills. Depending on their level, the test is different. There is not one overall score so there are not percentiles. The score report is not super helpful for most parents (and I’ve heard for many teachers).
The math is the same format K-2, 2-5, and 6+ and the score reported is a RIT score that can be normed and converted into a percentile. Same with the reading 2-5 and 6+ |

They're about to replace the MAP-RF with the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) for K-2
