My bro and DH are 30 and both do too.

How do you know that about your dad and brother?

Is this right?

23:06 here. Yeah, I'm 36 and have been married 12 years. But beyond this, the manscaping thing blows my paradigm of men demanding bizarre grooming accommodations of women and doing nothing in return out of the expectation that they're perfect and entitled just as G-d made them. And body hair is a traditionally masculine characteristic. It fits the paradigm that we have to remove ours because we have to exaggerate our femininity and present a flawless, real-live airbrushed finish, but why are they removing theirs? I'm sure someone has written something trying to put it all together, because I think it goes well beyond the stylish, well-groomed metrosexual thing. That I welcomed, but this I don't understand.

I have a very open relationship with my mom. We talk about everything.
Also I grew up in a tropical country where is common for men to wax their legs, back and chest.

Most men in this country shave their faces. It's not really different.

You are over-thinking the reasons people do it. It's not about exaggerated femininity or masculinity or anthropological paradigms. For the most part, it's really just about being well-groomed. Maybe a little about being daring if you go all the way. But that's about it.

I don't think so. This is a dramatic re-evaluation of what needs grooming. I do think fashions are very telling about the spirit of their times, but I just haven't figured this one out.

I hate the whole pornification of womens bodies that is so big in our culture right now. When you catch an old movie from the 1980s on TV--have you ever noticed how different the women look? They all have normal breasts etc. I think there is a whole generation of teenage boys who have no idea what an actual female breast should look like, let alone a normal woman with normal pubic hair.

As a general rule, if my wife drops the flimsiest of hints that there's something I can do to make myself more attractive to her, I do it. Instantly.

Unfortunately, most women aren't wired that way--otherwise guys would be wearing nothing but PVC hot pants, or whatever pushed women's buttons. So we're left with getting regular haircuts and wearing a clean shirt.

I certainly don't agonize over the socio-political ramifications about it, or project her tastes onto some sort of generalized "oppressing" female.

When the majority of Playgirl purchasers are women, we'll see what you are expected to look like to be accepted. 'Til then, you have no idea.

Fortunately, my DW and I have pretty good communication skills, so I know everything I need to know about "what I'm am expected to look like to be accepted," at least for the subset of women that matters.

I won't hold my breath for the majority of Playgirl purchasers to be women, though. Obviously, I have no firsthand knowledge, but I get the impression that the idea of looking at a greased Fabio's schlong isn't particularly titilating to most women...at least the ones over 14.
