When and where do you exercise?

I work out every day M-F morning after taking my DD to school. I am a sahm, so I make it work. I have a 3 yr old that goes with me. good luck

I think this depends on your personality. I much prefer to run alone - it clears my head. Plus, I've been in situations with running partners who are always 5-10 minutes late and when you are trying to get it done quickly and still get home before your dd or ds wakes up and then get to work, 5-10 minutes makes a big difference. Running alone, I can just hit the road right when I'm ready and go at my own pace.

I'm so glad someone asked this question. I have a follow up to it and some of you may thing I'm crazy for asking. When do you find the time to shower? I could work out at 530am before everyone wakes up. My issue is my boys (ages 3 and 18 months) will usually wake up when I'm either in the shower or finishing my hair, etc... Some days I find myself not showered until their afternoon nap time. Sorry this is such a silly question, but I swear I struggle with it daily.

I go to gym anywhere from 3-6 days a week - dep. on schedule. I am a SAHM with 2 kids in school. I love to excersize for the endorphins more than anything so I have no problem being motivated. I will actually opt out on other activities to work out instead!

Also wanted to say that if I could walk everywhere, I would. If I did not have to drive my kids to school I would also be walking - again, for fresh air and endorphins!

Can I just say that this is the reason I keep coming back to DCUMs? I thought I was the only who struggled with this. I only have one baby, so it's very different than two, but if I can't shower before she wakes, I shower during her first nap.

I've been known to run at lunch during work and just rinse off in the sink. Probably gross to many but you have to do what you have to do to exercise. I just make sure I run late (2ish) so I'll be going home soon.

If at home though and it is early morning, can your DH watch them while you shower? Otherwise I would probably just wait until he gets home or nap time. It really isn't a big deal unless you've run 5+ outside in the hot DC summer. At least that is my opinion

I used to put the baby in the bouncer with a toy, near the shower facing me, but in the doorway so he doesn't get hot. I could peek out and smile at him. He was an easy baby though, I don't know if my second would've been so content like that.

Huge fan of gyms with childcare. I go 2-3 x a week. I get a work out in, a good hot shower, and even can have lunch there with the kids (I go to Regency Sport and Health near Tysons) the childcare is fine for an hour or two (the max), I am on site, the kids get some socialization, which as a SAHM they don't always get, and I stay reasonably healthy and get a break for "free" Now if only I could control the chocolate and the wine! Good luck to you, I hate to exercise, drag my self every time but always feel so much better afterward and find my patience with the kids improves (as does my sex life)

I go to Results on Capitol Hill (even though it is a 25 minute drive for me) because it has good childcare for my two toddlers. If I wake up early and can get out by 5:30am, I go alone and am home in time for DH to leave for work at about 7:30-8:00am. When I do that I shower at the gym. If I don't wake up that early, I will go with the kids later in the morning, and don't usually have time for a shower because I only want to pay for 1 hour of childcare, so I come home and shower while they are napping. I'm a PT WAHM mom, by the way.

Whenever I can...I also get up at 5:30 and work out in our 'exercise room' - if I miss that then I will occassionally take walk during lunch and a few times have signed up for lunchtime classes at a gym near work. When I get home I love to take DS out for a walk / run or just chase him around. If all else fails I throw in a tape after DS goes to sleep...though this is the least favorite. I much prefer to get it out of the way in the morning.

We have a big plastic container with toys in our bathrrom so if DS wakes up, I take him into the BR with me and he'll play while I get ready for work.

Expecting again and not sure how the dynamics will work this time but bith DH and I try to exercise so we will have to come up with some compromise.

Our gym has a daycare and I swear every time I take my 9-month DS, he gets sick. It sucks. I think I will have to do the 5:45 in the morning thing when baby and DH are still asleep. They will be up and coffee will be made when I get back.....but I am just so damn tired all the time.

For the mom showering - I do what some of the others have mentioned and put him in the bouncy when he was small. Now he can play with toys on the floor. Can you close the door and do that with your baby? (When he starts to crawl, I will stick him in the tub (it is VERY deep so I don't think he will be able to get out) Our shower is sep and clear so I can watch him.)

join a gym with childcare. You can even have a shower without worrying about baby

Fitness First, locations all over town, has daycare at $2/hr.

They are the "Best Value" gym in the Washingtonian Magazine recently.

Exceptionally good equipment, no nonsense staff.
