Yet I've heard from many parents from 2nd/3rd grade onwards who are also unhappy with the school from both an administrative and an educational perspective. Did it always have these issues or is this something new?

Moving the middle school grades to Young made things difficult for people living to the west, because it's quite a bit farther away and off the metro.

We were at 2 rivers for many years. It was fine for our above grade level child. Although, I felt like they could have been more challenged. It became an issue when our younger child needed extra help. Then I started to see that we needed more.

That sounds like a lot of places. If you're well above grade level, a not-so-challenging in-school experience is tolerable, and perhaps even preferable to the extent it allows more bandwidth for at-home acceleration. But for kids that need real services...no.
