| How has Two Rivers Young been this year? Has it recovered well from a year of virtual schooling? How is it handling COVID and the uncertainty of this year? Anything you think someone who is considering listing it for the lottery for PK3 and 1st should know? Thanks! |
| I would not consider it unless I had no other option. Most of the families I know there are quietly looking for other options. |
| I know a family of a 4th grader that seems happy. |
This. There are some teachers who are truly excellent, and if you are lucky enough to get one, you will be fine, especially in the early grades. But the administration is truly a cluster, and has been going downhill rapidly. And if your kid as an IEP, please don't even think about it. |
Is this also the same for 4th Street or is Young uniquely challenged? |
| So it’s fine for those without an IEP (ie, most folks)? |
| Well, you don't necessarily know if you're going to need an IEP later. |
Fine, but possibly/probably any better than your IB. |
+100. I would say its fine/tolerable until 3rd grade. At that point, based on our experience, discipline problems become truly disruptive. Plus, all the things that are a minor inconvenience in the early years become truly infuriating: lack of decent aftercare option, complete parking cluster, half day Weds., etc. Our kids are in upper elementary at Young; we’re dying to get them out for next year. Many many families left after the disaster that was last year. The 5th grade and middle school classes aren’t even at capacity. |
Ugh. Is this going to lead to budget cuts? |
| Is the parent teacher group well regarded? What types of people show up? |
Where are you looking for next year? |
| I've noticed a lot of Two Rivers people coming over to ITS this year. It's hard, if you're living over by the Young campus there aren't a lot of options in the immediate area. |
No. It’s really a group in name only. Granted we’ve only been there for 2 years, but i’ve not observed any activity. |
| What happened to 2 Rivers as it seemed to be the darling of charters for the longest? Yet I've heard from many parents from 2nd/3rd grade onwards who are also unhappy with the school from both an administrative and an educational perspective. Did it always have these issues or is this something new? |
