My daughter used Savvy Treats for her wedding reception. It has been a couple of years since I was there, but it is good. Downtown Rockville.

Oh La La (Wheaton) is very good for pastries and croissants! Bonus is many pastries are available in bite sizes which is great for parties. Unassuming storefront on University Ave.

I also like La Bohemia in Rockville but that is further afield for me and doesn’t have the variety of Oh La La.

Another unassuming storefront is Patisserie
Manuel. Online order/pickup only, I believe.

I just have to put in a plug for Gwenie's near the Pike + Old Georgetown. It's a Filipino bakery, which is a plus for me as DH and DD are Filipino, but it's not going to have French pastries.

I literally love everything they do, but yes, they have cakes and cupcakes, and also ube cheesecake, I think, since you mentioned cheesecake.

The shop itself on Nebel is only open Fri/Sat but some of their stuff is available at Kuya Ja's around the corner-- that's run by the owner's brother.

I'm not a cheescake fan, but love their ube pie, all cakes and cupcakes, brazos, sans rival, and their donuts are SO SO GOOD (but ube and mango etc are better than the Nutella IMO because it's just... Nutella and not as creamy a filling).

I mean, I could go on and on. But if you want something more unique, I'd go for Gwenie's. It also seems like it would be the same or cheaper than the alternatives.
