I wonder why that would be?
Also interested in having my kid take health over the summer.
I would understand if they just don't have the curriculum ready yet, seeing as it is shaping up into school year horribilis annus II. But a purposeful gap is even more stupid, because that means for any kid who takes the class in school, they have to figure out a way to fill in the 1/2 year. If the 2025 kids had notice, they could have done health/PE for each of the years but they did not and many kids scheduled 2 semesters of PE in 9th to get it out of the way. I think the State BOE should have given a couple more years to get this requirement implemented.
I completely agree with you. it screwed up my kid's 4 year plan.
My IB 9th grader has their last 2 years pretty much completely spoken for already, and very little room in her 10th grade schedule, either. She took a full year of PE this year thinking it was a requirement, and turned out to have wasted a semester in an already jam-packed schedule.
But I think doing A this summer and B the next will work OK, and still allow them to do CIT at camp both summers. Just frustrating not knowing, because signups for CIT programs is in January. Guess we’ll just stack either the front or the back half of the summer, and do health the other half. MCPS does say that for A/B courses, both halves will be taught in each summer school session, so fingers crossed health is the same.
