Easing COVID-19 restrictions in daycares: working families need relief now

They always have been for every other malady and your statement doesnt make sense if you break it down. Children under 2 arent required to wear masks. Children 2-3 are suggested. Children over 3 are strongly encourage/required based on most daycares Ive been hearing about. Children over 3 are usually potty trained and can wipe their own noses.
Lastly there are no surges in COVID cases in either providers nor children in daycares that arent masking kids under 5.

Where are you located? In DC, masking 2+ is required. There are so, so many 2 year olds who will continue to be impacted because it’s just not developmentally appropriate to expect them to mask.

+1. Read the room, OP.

+2. More than half of our daycare is closed due to covid cases right now.

My daycare is closed with NO cases. Just closed "in case" because of holiday gatherings.

Are the prorating for the days they are closed? I would be very mad about this.

Not OP but involved in this effort. You're welcome! Please do share this widely.

No they are not. I am but I dont want to become that mom. Im lucky to have a WAH job but 4 days extra closed split between my DH and I is 8% of my leave for each year. Ive gone along with it because I felt like all of this was worth something but this age group/parent just keep getting told to deal with it and Im done.

Yes I am saying that the masking doesnt matter. Masks are require in DC for kids 2+ but masks are not required in childcare settings for nearly 1/3 of the rest of the country- they use should vs must in their implementation guidelines. Also they are eating napping playing outside and drinking without masks. Thats like me going to a public school and taking off my mask for 4 hours out of my 9 hour shift. If the other kid is sick, he/she is sick and spreading the virus. Its doesnt only spread between 8 and 11 am.

Well, you know what we do know. Cloth masks—I.e. pretty much what every single 2 and 3 year old wears are facial decorations. So let’s end that know shall we. They weren’t doing anything anyway and two year olds shouldn’t be masked per almost every other world health organization.

Thank you OP. Signed and sharing.

I'm a single parent and self-employed. These quarantines are breaking me. I cut my client load significantly to be able to ride out closures and quarantines figuring I would just do it until the toddler vaccine was approved in February. Now we may not have toddlers fully vaccinated until the end of 2022. I truly don't know how to keep my family afloat unless daycare goes test to stay. I can't afford a nanny.

Right now, losing our house and not being able to afford food is more of a risk for our family than Covid.

Your story breaks my heart. I think it would be extremely valuable for our policymakers to hear it. Please use our advocacy guides to find the contact information for key decision-makers and reach out to them:

+1. Our daycare was told by MoCo health dept that quarantines for the 2yo rooms had to be 4 days (rather than the shortened 10) because they assume mask usage is inconsistent at 2. No sh-t Sherlock- so why the F are they being forced to wear them?

^^14 days not 4

Actually this surge is a perfect example of why what has previously been done hasnt worked. I- a parent under 5- was okay with this for a year until vaccinations came out but no more. It will just keep happening and happening with no benefit to children. I dont have enough leave to have surgery I need due to these restrictive policies. My son has been tested almost 10 times this year due to runny nose/cough/etc. Not ONCE has it been COVID. Rapid tests arent accepted and every single daycare is doing things differently so these are all "recommendations" that are being implemented inconsistently.

When we've asked for more government support or paid leave for quarantines/isolation because this age group is unvaccinated the response is personal responsibility. If thats the way it goes then personal responsibility means my kid is not responsible for protecting anyone else.

Ill be signing your petition OP.

Petitions are a complete waste of time, but if it makes you feel important, go for it.

We are not in a surging pandemic of “every other malady.” Sit down.

So is your comment, but if it makes you feel righteous, go for it.
