There are miles and miles of separated, bike-only lanes in DC and Alexandria. You won’t have to contend with a single car in them.
Of course, you’ll still have to deal with other lawless cyclists, so it’s probably just as dangerous. |

Lots of road bikers use the loop at hains point. It's 2 right turns and gets you a 3 mile loop with very lttle traffic.
A long loop is to go out mccarthur, then falls road to tuckerman / democracy to beach drive, which you can take all the way back to georgetown. Lots of road bikers on that route too. But more traffic. |
