except PG just did… until mid Jan. |
| Can someone in-the-know please tell me the likelihood (or how much power localities have) in regards to school closings in the DC area, including Virginia? We’re setting course to move there early spring but will not if schools are closed. Talk about anti-science. |
| It's political disaster for anyone in office if schools close again. |
This. |
PG schools are already so bad it really doesn’t matter anyway. I should know, I attended public school in PG. |
| I have to think Bowser is thinking about the rise in youth crime and its relation to school closures, in thinking about closing schools again. |
| I would expect DC to follow PG lead for publics. Will Bowser force all DC Privates virtual? What will MoCo do? |
You would? Why? PG and DC approached virtual school pretty differently last year, with PG basically announcing it would be virtual for full terms well in advance and then extending the plan, and Bowser repeatedly promising/trying to reopen. The result might have been the same for a lot fo families, but PG County was very conservative in their approach and Bowser's proposed approach (which she struggled to implement) was much more aggressive in favor of in person school. |
Moco said it is not going virtual unless forced. PG apparently just values school less. |
They value their students, staff and their families. Clearly you don’t. |
100 students out of 130,000 tested positive in PG county. For an illness that is not that scary for this age group. And that age group can almost all be vaccinated as well. PG just doesn't care about education. |
You’re right. Or their public health officials are just inept. How many of those 100 students are even seriously ill? Are they closing down schools for a runny nose and some congestion? |
I'm in DC. We don't have the option of a virtual academy. And that charter school is probably not accepting new enrollment after count day |
| DC education is just a failure if they close. (I mean, it’s verging on failure most of the time anyway.). I’m happy MoCo said they won’t unless forced. |
Yep! I mean, I’ve just come to believe that places that readily close have people in them that aren’t that interested in public schools. This includes the very rich and the very poor, for different reasons. |
