Are parents okay with this?

I would not be okay with this. Our daycare's owner required all staff to get vaccinated, and I'm so grateful. We haven't been closed for a single case.

If you support the freedom of individuals to decline vaccinations, do you also support the freedom of employers to fire these people? Of stores and restaurants to refuse to serve them? Does it matter that one person's freedom of choice has significant health consequences for other people?

Breakthrough cases are possible--I got one--but that does not change the fact that vaccinated people are less likely than unvaxxed people to get COVID and, most importantly for OP's question, to spread COVID to other people.

I would not keep my kid at a daycare that did not have a vaccine mandate for its employees.

Yes, and both Michael Phelps and I know how to swim.

Hahahahaha this response is amazing. Love it.

No, I would not be ok with it, and I would ask if they were vaccinated. If not, I’d pull my kid.

This is so stupid. Yes breakthrough cases are possible but only like .4% of cases are breakthrough.

The last stat I saw was 16% of hospitalized are vaccinated. They are probably not boostered, but still.

OP. What ticks me off is if you’re going to have unvaccinated carers, at least put them with vaccinated kids. Not babies.

Yes, this would bother me. I don't super care in general whether people are vaccinated or not vaccinated, but it really messes with working parents' lives if they have to miss daycare this long, either because the teachers are sick and can't be there or because the teachers got a child sick. It would just seem like a business requirement of a daycare to have vaccinated workers.

Do you know if they are unvaccinated OP?

Lots of vaccinated friends have had breakthrough cases lately.

Yes. They are not vaccinated. Not naming, but parents, you’d better ask your administration at your center. I am appalled.

Again, only .4% of cases are from vaccinated people. Omicron probably higher but more like 7%. Vast, vast majority of cases are from unvaxxxed.

Kids old enough to be vaccinated often don't attend the same daycare as those too young.

Of course I'd prefer they be vaccinated. But I don't have the headspace to worry about this. Our daycare has had zero Covid cases in a year and a half.

Looking at daycares now (centers) and have been shocked at the number that haven't mandated vaccination for their staffs. I'd consider flu vaccine a requirement for those caring for infants, as well.

I would be far more concerned about flu vaccines. With that, I suspect these centers do not have people beating down doors to work there.

This is the problem. Centers are understaffed as it is, and can only hire people with certain credentials, so they can’t afford to lose any more staff. If even one more person quits, they will have to close a room and stop providing care to those kids.

My center isn’t requiring, but luckily every teacher chose to get vaccinated. I don’t know about boosters, though.
