When sensible men marry silly women

I have a feeling you are also not looking too deep into your “friend”. Sure. There are sometimes true mismatches, but more often I find that what seems like a mismatch is actually a perfect complement.

OP here, I actually am an English major and fully understand Mrs. Bennett's situation and motivations, I was casually referencing them to make a greater point about a couple's apparent mismatch. You are correct, I do not know their private interactions or motivations. Maybe they have a lot more in common than what appears on surface.

Mr Bennett was an idiot, he liked to watch the folly of the world with detachment and without any sense of responsibility. In the end this landed his daughter in a scandal that would have destroyed their family if Mr Darcy hadn’t stepped up. The Bennetts deserved each other and likely so do this pair.

Eh. He thought with his d!ck and married a woman for her looks. She thought long-term and snagged a man with money.

Kinda sounds like he's the silly one and she's the sensible one.

Wow, OP. Are you always this judgmental and shallow?

Mr. Bennett didn't accuse his kid of coughing to spite him, but he did mismanage money and was constantly rude to his wife even though she was just trying to clean up his mess. And it's not like Mrs. Bennett was the only one obsessed with money, she just wasn't discreet about it like she was supposed to be.

As for this woman you criticize. I cannot stand it when somebody is rude to their spouse, in public or not. But I will say that it is just sexist to criticize somebody for liking chick lit and fashion. We love to tear down shit that appeals to women (except, apparently, for Jane Austen, the creator of the Romance genre) and we think an obsession with finance (as opposed to money???) is a good trait.

So just, I don't know, I can see where you're coming from but I think you're still coming from a sexist perspective.

Agree with this. Why is "chick lit" inferior to books about finance?

OP here. It actually is not inferior, I read chick-lits too. I mean to say she appears to not have any "serious" interests. Whenever I have been in conversation with her it is about:

- what she bought where for how much
- what is someone she knows wearing on instagram
- which resort is where all the other rich people vacationing so they can go there too
- how tacky some women are compared to others
- how fat she is getting and her next Soul Cycle class

Next time discuss Mrs Bennett. She may have interesting insights.

OP here. I totally am! I'd love to marry someone like that so I am confused when I see the kind of women they sometimes pick.

Ugh, I hate when women do this. Get jealous because the stereotypically feminine, hot woman marries a rich man. It's not fair because I'm smart and cool and not like other girls, so I deserve a man with money, too!

It's the exact same as the so-called "nice" guy who gets upset that hot women go after "Chads" or "alphas" or whatever, never realizing that THEY are the shallow one for valuing women for their looks and feeling entitled to a hot one.

I did the trophy wife thing. My mom was a trophy wife. It ain't fun. Men obsessed with money are generally awful to be with. Way happier with my current middle class H. The people obsessed with money and looks can have each other, I don't want 'em.

It’s OK, I married a bimbo.
Someone has to.

So? I'd rather gossip about people on IG than listen to some boring blowhard drone on and on about finance and economics.

No one finds serious interests all that interesting.

Some people are just vain and shallow. It seems like the two of them have that in common.

What are the smart and interesting but not hot women to do? They too, want the smart and educated men who tend to make good money. Its unfair that those men put prime value on beauty and looks.

But he picked her and not you, you will never be with hi so you are wasting your time being jealous. Go find your own man. And for the record he;s not that great if he picked a shallow woman for his wife.

Lol at unfair. Surely there are smart and interesting men out there who are less attractive that need mates.

Are you OP? If you are putting yourself in the smart and interesting category, take a step back. Part of being smart and interesting is having the self confidence to not put down women who got husbands that are out of your league. Insecurity and bitterness are never attractive. I think you can get to this point because you at least have the awareness to acknowledge that you’re jealous.

Life is not fair. If you’re smart and interesting, you should use your intelligence to have a career where you’re the high earner and not be waiting around for a rich man. Rich men are also more likely to dump you in mid-life and get a younger, hotter trophy wife.
