Aniston - Hollywood Reporter - kids

Anonymous
It's fine that she talks about it - it was a media fixation for a while and looking back, much like the revisiting of Britney Spears' meltdowns etc. and Janet Jackson's Superbowl saga, it's interesting to see the obsession.

I do think she got the brunt of it, more so than other celebs, because she married Brad Pitt and he went on to have 6 kids with another huge star. It's a lot to ask America to drive by that without stopping. I mean, I don't think people were obsessed with Sandra Bullock or Sheryl Crow's lack of children or to Jen's point Dolly's because there was never a huge A list star (no one cared about whatever car guy moron Sandy was married to - I don't even remember his name - and Sheryl never married and her highest profile relationship already had a bunch of kids).

I do feel bad for her....and it was really weird how many tabloids were constantly posting bump or no bump pictures. But if you marry and divorce Brad Pitt, yea people are going to be interested in stuff. I'm not sure that she really could or should have done anything differently. it was sort of just bad luck. I think she was probably open to having kids via surrogate or adoption if she had found a guy who really wanted them....but she didn't go for that kind of guy. We all know Justin didn't want kids.

Anyway, she's 52 now so that is in the past. She is not going to have kids.

I mean Leo DiCaprio does this too. Whenever he is dating his current under-25 gf and has a movie to promote his PR releases something about how this is different and he’s going to settle down and start a family. But he doesn’t get dragged because he’s a man.

It’s clearly meant to make them more relatable. Would women really be such fans if he came out and said “I just want to bang barely legal woman for the rest of my life and don’t want to be bothered with kids”. It’s the same for Aniston being the spurned ex who longs for a family sells more movies than saying “he I just want to keep all my own money, live in my mansion, and get facials all day”

She wouldn't be the first woman to have kids in her 50s, if that's what she wanted, but my impression has always been that she wanted an intact family unit as a child of divorce. Shame she fell for Justin, so incompatible. I see the next relationship being with a more mature guy who has kids, and that she'll be a fabulous and committed stepmother.

I think the reason they don’t obsessing over Sheryl, Dolly or Sandra is because they don’t keep talking about wanting kids. And if they did they did something about it. I think if Brad had stayed with her, they would have had kids, one way or another. He left her when she was 35. Pretty late and difficult to start having kids later in life. But if she really wanted them, surrogacy or adoption were always a possibility. I think she always thought ‘ nice to have if it happens’ but not obsessed about it, except for PR.

So she should not give interviews any more? That's part of her job.

This is exactly it. Because Brad went on to have a slew of kids with someone else, and Jen wasn't giving details, people filled in their own blanks with "Well, Jennifer didn't want kids so that's why Brad left her." Which, of course, would be incredibly hurtful to her if she did in fact want kids, but wasn't able to.

I hear ya, op.

What’s irritating is that Jen is seemingly using this for good press.

The reality is that if she wanted a baby, she could have adopted or used a surrogate. Plenty of actors have done that.

So, she either only wanted a bio baby or never really wanted a baby in the first place and is just using this issue to garner sympathy and attention.

She raises this issue herself in interviews, which makes me think it’s just a talking point her PR team determined is useful…and that’s gross.

Nobody calls out Dolly or even Chelsea Handler because they don’t do what Jen does: use it as a PR tool.

I think Jen had a bad relationship with her parents and had a weird childhood as an only child. She’s in therapy and has had a string of bad relationships. It’s not surprising that a person in her shoes wouldn’t want kids…and that’s totally okay. Nobody really cares what she does. No kids, a million kids, nobody cares.

I agree, and can see why she was hesitant being a single mom given what she evidently went through with her own.

It seems that within a happy and healthy marriage, like the one she thought she had with Brad, she was open to, and wanted children. When it appeared she would have trouble in that department, Brad left and started a family with someone else.

She was then single and heart broken in her mid thirties and dated a slew of not family friendly men. We do not know whether she pursued treatments to ensure she could have biological children. By the time she got married again, she was allegedly considering adoption. That marriage also ended. So that's how she ended up with no children.

Brad basically screwed her over.

There was a report that heavily implied she and Theroux tried ivf but it didn't work, and after that was looking into surrogacy but the marriage fell apart. I think she accepted at that point a family wasn't in the cards for her. Brad's clearly a selfish @ss. No fan of Jolie but he was apparently drunk, partying and doing whatever he wanted their last few years together leaving her to raise the six kids. I can see why she hates him now, and am surprised Aniston doesn't (maybe she realizes she dodged a bullet with a guy prone to depression who's fundamentally selfish and never satisfied). But she still has strong feelings about it, clearly, since she said being at the Friends reunion was triggering because it brought back where she was in her life in that final season. I do admire her for stating she never wanted to live in victimhood though, so good for her.

She was 35. Sheryl and Sandy went on to adopt. So did Hoda. She could have had a surrogate using her eggs probably too. I don't think kids were a priority for her and that's okay. I think this thread drives home her point anymore - people just assume she is devastated about not being a mom and have trouble accepting...she might not have wanted to become a mom. Which is fine. Really, it is. I LOVE being a mom.....but different strokes and all.

Hoda was JA's age when she first adopted. And she has a nice family unit, including partner, now. I could see something like that happening but probably only if she met the right guy. She said back when she did that single mother movie with Bateman she didn't see that path for herself.

I agree with this, I can see her being an amazing stepmom. There are some lucky future stepkids out there.
