Risk of putting off car inspection until next month

Parkign ticket risk. Say you're parked on a public street and the officer writes you a ticket becuase youre meter expired. now they'll also add on one for expired registration, so you end up with 2 tickets.

I got a ticket in December for expired sticker, while I was driving down ffx co pkwy. No other reason to be pulled over either. Get the inspection

I have done this a couple of times. Mostly to move expiration month to a more convenient month, which obviously would be great for you, but also because the last few days of month there are huge lines. Wait a few days into the new month and the lines go away. If I were you, I would go on Monday, January 3 which should be almost no risk and short lines.

In future years, do your renewal from 10th of month to 17th, when no one else is doing.

I almost always let mine expire in VA and then go early in the next month. You won't get a ticket, the lines will be shorter, and you get a free month out of it. One time I let it go almost 5 months on a car that I rarely drive.

For those that postpone last expiry, isn’t emissions done at same time as inspection? Without emissions, won’t you be unable to renew registration?

What's the likelihood of getting caught for having an inspired sticker in VA? Is it just a matter of being caught by a cop? Is there a grace period?

It's Dec. 14, the middle of the month. I bet if you go today it won't be busy. It will only get busier towards the end of the month. Or in the first days of January as procrastinators try to get it done after the fact.

If a cop sees your expired inspection sticker in a parking lot, can you get a ticket?

And yes, I *could* find the time (and it takes forever, because there is always a wait) but I am not sure I'd pass inspection - last time my tires were acceptable, but on their last legs.

I already have new tires planned to be put on, on Dec 23rd. So I don't want to risk failing inspection only to have to go in again after getting new tires on.

Generally, it's just so much easier to wait to January because Dec is always such a pain. I kind of want to break the cycle so I get it in January, every year.
get new tires at a place that will also do the inspection and get it done at the same time.

No, unless your emission and safety check both expire on the same month.

I have a 12 year old bmw that I habitually, albeit accidentally ,wait until the next month before reinspection. Here's the kicker. I'm just about to go full circle 🤔. No big deal. Dont stress

Yes.

Just have your mechanic do the inspection the same day you get the new tires. Problem solved

Next year, get your inspection done in November, something like the week before Thanksgiving

I'm in VA and I do this every year. I'll save $25 (or however much it costs) in year 13 lol.
